I love my career.  I absolutely love helping to create lasting memories for good people.  

Oh, the places you'll go.....  Andy's Senior Picture photo shoot was such a blast.  Terrific young man with tremendous musical (and skateboarding!) talent.  We joked throughout the shoot that it wasn't for a senior picture, but rather for an album cover.  I deeply hope he's able to achieve that dream.

In addition, he and his dad found an AMAZING location for the shoot, as they looked diligently for a brick building with justtheright vibe....  They sure did find it, and getting there/being there was so fun!

I've been shooting portraits virtually every day for two straight weeks and am thoroughly enjoying working with so many fascinating people (and pets!).  October is the most beautiful of the months in southern Indiana, and with portraits and travel I only have a couple open days through November 6th.  I'll be alone on a kayak with the Lake Monroe bald eagles each day that I don't have a shoot, which rounds out my crazy schedule with solitude, beauty, intimate silence and majestic vistas.....  I don't know how true the adage "find what you love and do it for a living" may be, but, for me, there's harmony between my love of photography, my photography business, and the rest of my life.  It's through photography that I feel the most peace, the most awe and wonder, and the deepest connection with Earth.

I've listened to Nick Cave's brilliant "Skeleton Tree" album so many times this week I've lost count....  Such a heartbreaking, mournful saga of losing a son.  In the midst, I shot this wonderful little family who are anticipating their second child in the spring....   The cycle goes on and on and on ("In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on." Robert Frost)....  There's a poignancy to life that never fails to remind us that we're on an inexplicable journey, and, I would add, that we should cherish, embrace, honor every glimpse of beauty.  

Shooting (small, see my Investment page...!) weddings is so much fun.  I've had the pleasure to shoot at least one each month this year, and the wedding day anticipations, joys, tears and love are an unequalled job perk.  Hard to single a favorite moment of shooting weddings, but it's tough to beat watching the soon-to-be bride and groom prepping for the ceremony, each in their separate rooms....  To be able to see and interact with them, while they've not yet seen the other, is a unique and raw experience.  

Could well be Bloomington's smartest family! Both parents are IU Mathematics professors, and the kids are wildly intelligent....  Such a pleasure meeting and working with them this week on campus.  

Took a long-weekend trip to Key West, and couldn't have been too much more alive than strolling through the areas with my camera.  There's a particular vibe down at Mile 0, and it's so natural to quickly fall into that rhythm and lifestyle.  I sure do adore Bloomington, but if I ever left South-Central Indiana there's no question Key West would make my Top Five list of potential sites for a new Jeff Norris Photography studio!

A lovely afternoon with Rabbi Chincholker and his family at Oliver Winery this week....  I've had sittings every day this week and somehow the crazy-busy always feels quietly calm as I sit at my desktop to go through the images....  Portrait photography is so interesting in so many ways, including that it's bursts of time with people and families, followed by the isolation of a cup of coffee, a computer screen and the process of going through image-by-image....

Amanda is a beautiful old-soul in a D1 athlete's physique (Cross Country and Track & Field). She's entering her Master's program this week at IU. It's a joy to be around her and to feel her faith, her determination and her intelligence.

So much fun shooting Sarah and John's engagement photos, and we still have the wedding to do, too! A fun couple with chemistry that immediately feels like they've been together since Day One and that they'll have a joyful life together!  The shoot was at Indiana's first state park, too, (McCormick's Creek), which made it even more special!
